The history of Belitung is indeed inseparable from some of the local ruling kingdoms. Although initially in the 7th century Belitung was ruled by the Kingdom of Srivijaya and the Majapahit Kingdom in 1365, but Belitung never existed with its own government. Belitung's own governmental rights were only possessed in the 15th century with the emergence of several local kingdoms.

One of the kingdoms that appeared in Belitung at that time was the Belantu Kingdom. Although it did not become the first kingdom to emerge in Belitung, the Belantu Kingdom remained an important part of Belitung's history. Belantu Kingdom itself began to emerge in the late 17th century until the beginning of the 18th century along with the widespread influence and spread of Islam in Belitung.

Then in 1823, the existence of the Dutch in Belitung was getting stronger so that the power of the Belantu Kingdom continued to decrease. The Belantu Kingdom stunt was carried out by JP Blerschel (as a resident assistant) who was assisted by Captain Keuhn to replace JP DeLa Motte.
