The Goddess Kwan Im Temple which is also called the Goddess Kwan Im Buddhayana Temple is a historic and ancient site. This is because this temple has been around and was discovered since 1747. At that time a fisherman who was anchored at Burung Mandi Beach found the Buddha Bodhisttwa statue. According to another story, it is said that Dewi Kwan Im had come and prayed on a rock in the Kon Im room. Before becoming a tourist attraction, this temple was a place of worship for Buddhists. But as the development and the number of visitors who are interested in coming, then this monastery was also designated as a historical tourist attraction. Because it is in the hills then to enter the monastery, tourists are required to climb the stairs, amounting to 86 units. There are three places of worship in Dewi Kwan Im Temple, Shimunyo, Sitiyamuni and Kon Im on the top of the temple.

With the status as the largest monastery, it is no exaggeration when the Dewi Kwan Im Vihara is always crowded with Buddhists who want to worship. Especially during Buddhist holidays such as Vesak and Chinese New Year, this place will be full of people. Visitors who come here are not only from domestic but also some of them are foreign tourists. Some tourists themselves claim to be interested in coming here because of the myth of praying when they wish. Besides enjoying religious tourism, on the temple hill you can also find a beautiful panorama of Burung Mandi Beach which is directly behind the temple. Not only that, if the right moment, you can also find a herd of monkeys who come down to look for food from the top of the hill.

Dewi Kwan Im Vihara located in Burung Mandi Village, Manggar, Damar District, East Belitung Regency can be reached from Manggar City in around 24 minutes. While from HAS Hanandjoeddin Airport, the journey to the monastery must be taken in approximately 1 hour 20 minutes. The road to the monastery itself is fairly good and can be traversed by two-wheeled or four-wheeled vehicles.
